Character Defect
Posted On 10/16/2010 16:11:14

One of my character defects is that I rely on others to make me feel good, I make others responsible for how I feel.  I blame others for not making it easy to feel good about myself.

I won't be on as often.

Hi everyone,

Just a note to let you know that I'm disconnecting my link to the internet.  It keeps dropping carrier every 5 minutes.  I can't afford the high charges and to top it off, I'm becoming more symptomatic.  So I think a break will do me good.  I'll still come by to visit the site, just not as often.  Please keep me in your prayers as you are all in mine.

Your friend in recovery

Norm

I am an alcoholic/addict in recovery and I'm working along with a woman who has created an iPhone application to help us all stay connected and support each other - whether we use alcohol, drugs or anything else. I am trying to build critical mass right now to get the safety net to be more and more effective. The app just became available and the feedback has been very very encouraging. You can write me personally at melanie@ann-e.com if you have any questions. You can also find us on Twitter @anonymousnet and on Facebook under ann-e. I would love to hear from you and hope to see you on the app. One can actually see the support around them. I don't ever want to feel alone with this addiction again. I am thankful to be involved with this project. Please write to me and tell me what you think. xoxo Melanie ( Vancouver BC )

Be kind to your mind.

Meditation has always been thought of as cultish or fanatical.  I, too, shared this belief in the past.  Part of this was the result of misinformation combined with unrealistic expectations.  I personally have not yet been completely entranced visually nor had a dramatic spiritual encounter as is commonly believed.  Yet I have found a peacefulness using techniques involving relaxation, diaphragmatic breathing, and creative visualization.  The art of meditation is individual and unique to each person.  For me, it's the unity of spirit, mind, and body coming together in harmony with its surroundings.

Some techniques of meditation include:

1.  Meditate by just being aware of yourself.
2.  Monitor your thoughts.
3.  Be very aware of your feelings.
4.  Observe yourself.
5.  Be patient and calm.
6.  Quiet your fearful, racing thoughts.
7.  Desire only to be able to live differently.

Meditation can be a invaluable tool and I think, an important role in the recovery process.  I wouldn't suggest it to anyone who has over-expectations for anything but an experience with someone precious and special: yourself.

Just For Today 2
Posted On 03/07/2010 21:21:02

Just for today my thoughts will be on my recovery, living and enjoying life free from fear, anxiety, or panic.

Just for today I will have faith in someone within my 12 Step Support Group who believes in me and wants to help me in my recovery.

Just for today I will have a program.  I will try to follow it to the best of my ability.

Just for today through my 12 Step Support Group I will try to get a better perspective on my life, and my insecurities that result in Anxiety and Panic.

Just for today I will be unafraid, my thoughts will be on my new associations, people who are recovering and who have found a new way of life by following The Twelve Steps Program.  As long as I work the Steps, I have nothing to fear.

Something to celebrate!

I started a new chapter of Emotions Anonymous here in Topeka, Kansas.  We were needing one in our area so I thought I'd give a shot.  Wish me luck!
