relapse planned
Posted On: 11/19/2009 08:52:36

A relapse is a "planned, pre-meditated event" - not something that happens as a result of one weak moment. Constant, daily vigilance is important in order to stay on a good spiritual and mental path. Unfortunately, often times when someone comes back into the rooms after a drinking "episode", I am not that surprised. It is often the same basic steps and principles that are missing from their life - lack of contact with a sponsor, a higher power, and a drop-off in meeting attendance. There is usually no step-work being done and certainly not being utilized in everyday life to overcome challenges. Of course, these statements are generalizations and not absolutes - just my opinion based on observation

Philip -

Yah, you betcha. I have no recollection of anyone making it back in that doesn't say they let up on their maintenance of that required spiritual condition - if they ever worked it at all. So, it looks like we have the same observations and opinion...

Hugs,

Dennis

Philip: good observations. When you've been around a while, you develop a 6th sense about who is serious. A good chat usually let's you know.

The % chance of relapse diminishes drastically for those who have got through Steps 4/5 thoroughly.

I know many with long term who do not attend meetings on a regular basis, but have other forms of "service" incorporated into a holistic recovery. Diffrent strokes for diffrent folks!

Persoanlly, I go to a few meetings every week, but have had hiatus periods over the years! I go because there were people there for me!
