Trick Question
Posted On: 03/02/2008 03:14:17

A friend of mine sent a trick question to me - one that I haven't heard in years, and thought I'd pass the fun on...

Three frogs are sitting on a log.
One of them decide to jump off.
How many frogs are on the log?

Feel free to give your answers and how you came to that conclusion. On Monday night/Tuesday morning, I'll post the answer I gave (as well as my friend's) as a comment to this blog.

Well I would say 2. The thrid obviously coul not handle changing his life at this point in time.

That's amphibian abuse and we turn them over to the ASPCA. We won't stand for any that kind of theing here.

What if the 2 other frogs (sponsors) take action and push the indecisive frog off?

Thats the third step. We made a decision to turn our will and life over to the care of god,,,The N.A. step working guide says that when we make a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves(step 4) we make the decision we made in step three real...As many have said lets learn to live by our actions and not are good intentions.. As promised, here's the answer I gave...my conclusion, and how he heard it.
Enjoy!

me: 3

him: Good shot!
I heard that the other night in a meeting. Many people make the decision to start their steps (or other things that they should) but without action, it is just a decision.

me: Really? Hrmm... No, never heard it put that way before. I remember hearing this trick question a very long time ago... It makes sense because the question posed doesn't imply that the frog actually left the log. In other words, even though the frog decides to jump off, in which case it's possible to actually do...but only if the jump lands right back on the log without actually leaving. But I do like that analogy much better. Thank you! :D

oh, that's really fun, I would've said two for sure..but I cheated and looked at everyone else's answers first.....

This was way cool.

Thanks -
I was having a little fun with the puzzle and words. I find when I do that it gets my mind out of places it shouldn't be. There's an old saying (fits me well): "Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most." There are many times I start to take life (and myself) way too seriously. I use frippery like I wrote to break that chain of thought. Laughter IS the best medicine for me.

DENNIS, you blow my mind. You are great!  BUT, I agree with what you said about a decision is not an action.
