Pray with me
Posted On: 05/21/2008 17:15:32

I have been a bit busy over the last couple of weeks.  The man I was sponsoring has been to court and has been given a two year jail sentence although his barrister is now appealing against some dodgy decisions given by the judge during the trial.  I have written a letter to the probation officer about his recovery and we are really hoping and praying that he will get the sentence suspended.  Two years of probation, perhaps tagging is not going to be fun for him but he considers it better than a custodial sentence.  Five years of being on the sex offenders register is going to be no fun either.

He is shocked and despairing, cannot continue in his career and has lost the means of supporting his family.  I am asking everyone to pray for him.  His faith is not very strong and he feels God has let him down.  I am praying that he will find some hope. Cara

I have been on the same path with sponsees. Funny, we can hope for them and pray for them, we can't fix them, just be there for them.

While justice is never perfect, I remain grateful that there is an "order" to life that theoretically keeps us all safe. Thank god the majority respect it.

Sounds like you sponsee has got involved in more than a traffic offense, and if he is innocent, I'll pray for justice. If he's angry, get him to reflect on the prose "Footprints".

I WAS FACING 15 YEARS WHEN I CAUGHT MY CHARGES, AND THE THING IS I DIDN'T EVEN CARE. MY FIRST TIME BEING IN TROUBLE, AND I WENT ALL THE WAY OUT! I GOT HIT WITH 7 FELONIES, AND GOT A LAWYER. HE GOT 4 FELONIES DROPPED, AND STILL HAD THREE FELONIES LEFT. I SERVED 18 MONTHS FOR TWO OF THE FELONIES, IN A WORK RELEASE FACILITY. I DID A YEAR PROBATION ON THE THIRD FELONY WHICH PROBATION SAVED MY LIFE. EVEN THOUGH THINGS WORKED OUT IN MY FAVOR I STILL HAD NO DESIRE TO CHANGE! THEN I GOT PUT ON PROBATION, AND CONTINUED TO USE. THEN MY ATTEMPTED SUICIDE WAS WHAT BROUGHT ME TO MY KNEES TO SORT OF SPEAK. I'VE BEEN CLEAN EVERY SINCE, AND I SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED PROBATION OCTOBER 18, 2007. MY PLAN WAS TO GO BACK TO DOING THE SAME STUFF ONCE I GOT OFF PAPER, BUT THEN I TRIED TO TAKE MY OWN LIFE. THINGS CHANGED FOR ME, AND I TOOK A VOW I WOULD DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO STAY SOBER. I GOT RELEASED FROM PROBATION OCT. 18, 2007! ALOT OF PEOPLE MADE BETS I WOULD GO BACK OUT WHEN I GOT OFF PROBATION. THAT'S OKAY BECAUSE IT'S NONE OF MY BUSINESS WHAT PEOPLE THINK OF ME! I'VE REMAINED CLEAN AND SOBER, AND I AM VERY ACTIVE IN THE FELLOWSHIP. I'M COMING UP ON 16 MONTHS OF SOBRIETY FRIDAY, AND IT'S AN AWESOME FEELING. I WOULDN'T CHANGE IT FOR THE WORLD, AND I AM TRULY GRATEFUL TO BE CLEAN AND SOBER TODAY! MAYBE HIS PRAYERS WILL BE ANSWERED, AND THINGS WILL TURN OUT FINE. IT DID FOR ME EVEN THOUGH IN THE VERY BEGINNING I DIDN'T CARE, BUT THANK GOD IT WORKED OUT THE WAY IT DID. I WOULD BE SITTING IN PRISON RIGHT NOW SERVING A 15 YEAR SENTENCE! I'M TRULY GRATEFUL FOR THE FREEDOM I HAVE TODAY, AND THE FREEDOM FROM ACTIVE ADDICTION AS WELL TOO! MY LIFE HAS CHANGED ALOT, AND I WOULDN'T TRADE IT FOR THE WORLD! LOVE MY LIFE TODAY, AND I AM VERY BLESSED TO BE ALIVE TO TALK ABOUT IT!

I too pray that he finds hope. The fact that his is an altogether not uncommon outcome of the addictive lifestyle we have lead in varying degrees.
Vehicular manslaughter and unpremeditated homicides are on that list also. We have have two people in our fellowship that spent over five years behind bars for such errors in judgement. They consider it but a beginning of the amend they need to pay. No matter the outcome, he will need to keep and strengthen that faith. I expect that we all have the need to make amends for things we have done - either up front and willingly or by the hand of others. This is a fact of life and Gods Will. This passage may help:
Proverbs 3:11-14:
11 My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction:
12 For whom the LORD loves he corrects; even as a father the son in whom he delights.
13 Happy is the man that finds wisdom, and the man that gets understanding.
14  For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold.

Take care,
Dennis
