Acceptance
Posted On 03/21/2007 14:21:39
I have been running into "opportunities for growth" at my job in the form of a supervisor who is mean spirited in private meetings, while publically is considered a spiritual leader. I get frustrated with this situation, but continually try to accept what I cannot change, others and how they act, and change what I can, me and how I react. Prayer and Step Three are great tools to keep in the forefront of the mind in such a situation.

RFD (Reflection for the Day)
Posted On 02/20/2007 08:30:04
Today is very busy at work; I have 7 appointments and then do a 90 minute ACOA group at 6 PM. When I begin to feel a little overwhelmed, I remind myself to pray and just do the next thing that needs to be done. I also remind myself as I am writng this reflection that 29 years ago I thought my life was over, that I would never amount to anything, was lonely, and without an HP. So, I am grateful to be able to know that all that has changed and I am able to make a difference today, with the help of God and the tools I have learned in 12 Step recovery. Isn't it awesome to be able to arrive at gratitude just by reflecting as I have done right now. Have a spiritual day, everyone. KCB, Jan W

Today'sReflection
Posted On 02/17/2007 10:35:28

Today, Saturday, is going to be busy; my grandchildren are coming over to stay the night...they are 3 (boy) and 5 years (girl) old; very cute and energetic and fun, but I won't have much time to myself. I am grateful to be alive, sober, and available to my wife, children, and grandchildren. Most of all, I am grateful to have a strong faith in my HP; a source of spiritual strength that I found in 12 Step recovery. Without that relationship, I would be lost. So, that's where I'm at today. Prayers to all in recovery, and KCB,
Jan W

Addictions Counseling Online
Posted On 02/15/2007 14:47:38

Can Online Counseling for Drug and Alcohol Addiction Problems Be Effective?

The answer to the question is: “Yes, but with the need to understand the limits of online help.”

Persons with serious emotional or psychiatric conditions (such as, but not limited to, eating disorder, anxiety disorder, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia), not stabilized through traditional treatment by a qualified mental health professional are not appropriate for the help offered online and should seek help from such professionals before accessing online services.

Let's define some terms. As used in this article, alcohol or drug addiction means that a person's alcohol or other drug use has reached the point that the person cannot use without loss of control over use of the substance and/or cannot use without producing adverse consequences in significant life areas. The addicted person has developed a psychological and/or physical dependence upon the substance. An addicted person will continue to use the substance in the face of adverse consequences. Physical dependence on a substance, means that stopping use of the substance will result in withdrawal symptoms. Most persons with addiction (for ex., alcoholism) are NOT physically dependent on their drug and will not experience the full blown physical withdrawal for the substance. They will, however, experience cravings, sleeplessness, and other symptoms caused by their psychological dependence on the drug.

Alcoholism and other drug addictions are devastating disorders which negatively impact affected individuals and all who care about them, physically, emotionally and mentally, and spiritually. Successful treatment of persons with full blown alcohol or other drug addiction may require a comprehensive treatment program, with services provided by professionals face-to-face. Online addiction treatment can be helpful for persons who are trying to figure out if they or persons close to them, may have a problem. Online counseling can be effective in itself and/or as part of a comprehensive treatment program that includes traditional face-to-face counseling and other treatment interventions.
