As a Medic in the Vietnam era,I nearly killed myself on alcohol. In my search for wealth and man's approval, I lost God, and all spirituality. I spent nearly $300,000 in 3 years in an attempt to get people to like me. I hung out in motels, and bars. I was shot, stabbed and beaten several times before I realized that my problems were really a sign that God loved me. "...For whom the Lord loves, He disciplines..." ( Hebrews 12:5). After many hospitalizations, de-tox facilities and half-way houses I went to a Christain Men's Recovery Center. It was there that God pulled me up. Today, I am driven by a consuming love for Christ and a desire to help others. "In my distress, I called upon the Lord, ...and He heard me..." Psalms 18:6. Terry

"As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them." - J.F.K.

Thanks for the add. And yes, only by letting go, surrendering, can we really have what we need - not what we thought we wanted...
Take care,
Dennis

We SURRENDER TO WIN.

On the face of it, surrendering certainly does not seem like winning. But it is in A.A. Only after we have come to the end of our rope, hit a stone wall in some aspect of our lives beyond which we can go no further; only when we hit “bottom” in despair and surrender, can we accomplish sobriety which we could never accomplish before.

We must, and we do, surrender in order to win.

From “The Professor and the Paradox“, a story that appeared in the second edition of the Big Book from 1955 to 1976.
