Enjoy the healing part about recovery, going from the walking wounded to the wounded healer, despite the fact that we're still walking around with wounds...though not as gaping....I like the phrase that our Higher Power makes our scars beautiful....I'm immersed in the arts, recovery, a growing, recovering relationship, motorcycles and music...I'm almost daily amazed that the LIGHT shines through our brokeness and cracks, empowering us and healing others....

Have a great weekend!

05/26/2008 04:07:16

may we take time out this morning to have a moment of silence and prayer for those who courageously gave their lives so that we may be able to live ours today. for those who came home and dealt with the aftermath of war. for those who are still abroad and are unable to be with their loved ones on this day. and let us not forget those who lost their lives in their own personal battle with addiction. as we enjoy our holiday today let us keep in mind that some gave all for us to be able to have that previlege. may we keep their families and loved ones in our thoughts and prayers.

eternally grateful

I appreciate what you wrote above, "Enjoy the healing part about recovery, going from the walking wounded
to the wounded healer, despite the fact that we're still walking around
with wounds...though not as gaping....I like the phrase that our Higher
Power makes our scars beautiful." Thanks!  God bless!

OK - we do agree. Every time I read that poem I cry.

Ken -
Yeah - my "going with the flow" isn't fatalistic, It's more the being aware of opportunities that are placed in front of us. Like the ones I used to sidestep or trip over. I just figured it would be fun to toss out a few ideas that people can play with. And it was. And the ones I expected did. I really enjoy the fellowship with all of you here - because we can do things like this...

OK, Ken -  History lesson time. Grabbing the brass ring comes from the days of carousels. When everyone was on and it was running, either a person or a machine would hold out a large brass ring and the person that grabbed it would get a free ride or a prize.
Here's  a good link to  the story behind the brass ring: http://www.worldwidewords.org/qa/qa-bra4.htm.
The sad part of the analogy is that only one person gets to grab the ring for each ride. It gives a bit of a sobering twist to the thoughts on the recovery/relapse process...
Enjoy,
Dennis
