JOHN MELLENCAMP!!!

So be careful in what you believe in,
There's plenty to get you confused.

And in this land called paradise,
You must walk in many men's shoes.

Bigotry and hatred are enemies to us all,
Grace, mercy and forgiveness will help a man walk tall

Just Like Meetings

I was born in Indiana and now I reside in Florida. I have five sisters and three brothers. I have only one child, a son, who turned 19 years old this past November. I have lost both parents, two sisters and two brothers already.

I was 18 years old when I was introduced to my first AA meeting. The man that gave me my beginner's token told me, "if your drinking is not screwed up, we'll screw it up for you". I hated that man for many years but now realize he's the one that planted the seed. My old behavior continued for the next eleven years.

At one point I managed to put together almost two years. I stopped working the steps, going to meetings and using my sponsor. I picked up once again and to remain outside of the AA doors for about one and a half years.

Finally at the age of 29, I hit my bottom. It was then I admitted and accepted complete defeat. In rehab for the forth time, I prayed to my Higher Power to remove from me the obsession to drink. That is when I experienced my first spiritual experience, feeling something lifting out of my body.

My sobriety date is October 8, 1992. During this time I have had family members die, got divorced, remarried then divorced again. Lost my very first job recently while in sobriety and to think I did not have to pick one drink up when any of this stuff happened. I have also been blessed with the opportunities to have worked with the Indianapolis Colts and the Indiana Pacers. Today I share my experience, strength and hope with others. I also continue to pray, do service work, speak, work with others and read recovery material. It works if you work it...

Keep The Faith!

may we take time out this morning to have a moment of silence and prayer for those who courageously gave their lives so that we may be able to live ours today. for those who came home and dealt with the aftermath of war. for those who are still abroad and are unable to be with their loved ones on this day. and let us not forget those who lost their lives in their own personal battle with addiction. as we enjoy our holiday today let us keep in mind that some gave all for us to be able to have that previlege. may we keep their families and loved ones in our thoughts and prayers.

eternally grateful
billy
