Finding Comfort, Serenity Seekers, Emotions Anonymous

My name is Norm and I'm Powerless over my Emotions.

For those who suffer from all forms of anxiety and panic, these few words of admitting to ourselves that we are powerless over fear and need help, may be our first step toward recovery!

I was 16 years old when my first anxiety attack occurred. Unfortunately, at that time I had no resources of support as my condition progressively got worse over the next 10 years. As my panic attacks became more powerful and severe, I developed thoughts of suicide associated with panic attacks. Desperately seeking releif from my emotions, my thoughts bacame irrational and frantic, contributing to even more fear.

1. Am I more affraid of dying or living?

2. Is feeling pain better than feeling nothing at all, or is feeling nothing at all better than feeling pain?

3. Is the cause of my distress mental or physical?

4. If I survive, will I become incapacitated mentally, or physically or both?

5. Is suicide a permanent solution to a temporary problem?

6. What if the problem never goes away, and what if I'm prevented from dying if I wanted to?

I was treated and released from a mental health hospital in a short time, I was lucky. My doctor recommended that I contact a 12 Step Program like Emotions Anonymous. What wonderful advise that became!

My feelings of fear were real, but they were not based in reality. Now with the support of EA, I'm learning to discern what anxieties are real and which are not.

Disturbingly, many sufferers of anxiety disorders have not yet heard of Emotions Anonymous. This 12 Step program is an excellent resource for fellowship, support, and self help materials.

You are not alone with your fears, you have a safe place among us!

Been working my recovery since August 15, 1990.
