I love war movies and drama.
One of my favorites is Braveheart.
I also like The Patriot, 300, Elizabeth, Gladiator,
Cold Mountain,
Signs,
We Were Soldiers,
Passion of the Christ,
Big Red One with Lee Marvin
and a host of other movies.

One of my favorite things said in a movie came from Maximus in Gladiator:

"My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius, Commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions, loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next."

Michael Grissom Books:

When the South was Southern
The last Rebel Yell
Can the South survive?

General Group for Addicts, methadone all over the world

I have been a drug addict for over 25 years now.
13 of those years have been
spent by daily narcotic use,
repeated pill counting,
constant thoughts of when my next dose
was going to be,
how many pills
I could take and be able to
make up for it in the next days dose,
repeated looks at a calendar,
doctor shopping,
lying to myself,
and becoming a recluse
who will now sometimes
go days or weeks before
contacting a loved one.

The last four years
I have been going to a Methadone clinic.

I am finally preparing myself
for the last dose of this stuff
to be before February of 2008.

I am scared...
I have not had a clear unpolluted brain
since I was 15 years old.

I like the sound of the rain,
thunderstorms,
the smell of the mountains in the morning,
genealogy,
old forgotten homeplaces,
the smell of Confederate Jasmine,
waterfalls,
being alone,
strawberry chessecake,
celtic designs,
Victorian tombstones,
things that make you gasp inside,
distant sounds of silence,
echos,
the way fresh mowed grass smells,
the feeling I get when my husband
holds me close,
the way homeless cats look at me
when I feed them,
and the way babies smell.

I dislike loud, nasty people,
standing to long in a line,
put downs,
the way my family
has forsaken
me,
things that scare me,
emotional traumas,
death of a loved one,
abortion,
becoming to dramatic,
taking things for granted,
liberal thinking,
shallowness,
people who talk to much,
hearing someone say there is no God,
Southern bashing,
people who cheat,
flambouncy,
and spiders.

Wow, what a read. I felt the blood pumping through my veins when I was reading about your struggle, as if it was your blood. I can totally understand what your going through & know what you feel. Looks like you got a good plan. When I tore my ACL in my knee they talked about pre-hab for my knee which is building up the muscle before surgery. Looks like your doing the same but with your mental & physical, so good luck with your "prehab". There are plenty of people here to help you along.
My favorite line is in Braveheart from the crazy Irishman "this is my island!" Man I can relate to him. I also really liked your line to Gladiator. I also felt his pain in the movie and all the anger & resentment that us addicts know so well.
Well take care & God bless and I hope to see you on that road to happy destiny.
Jeff

Ahhhh... a fellow cat lover! I have 5 - not all by choice. Two were mine and three were my husband's. I didn't realize that a blended family included cats! lol I love all of them. Sometimes I think I do better with cats than I do with people.

Anyway, hello and welcome. This is a great place. You will find lots of love, support and encouragement.
