General Group for Addicts

Hey my name is jeff. My story is pretty much the same as a lot of people. I grew up in a alcoholic home my mom would drink excessive everyday, and i felt neglected and i ended up with a lot of trust problems from being let down. My Dad was a addict and would use just about anything that he could get his hands on. He was never really around much and he later o.d'd and drove his car off a bridge when i was 9. I started using at a young age i was 13 and one of my older neighbors offered some marijuana to me, at the time i thought of was cool i liked the feeling of hangin with the older kids feeling accepted. By the time i was fifteen i was smoking everyday and abusing pain medication like it was candy. Highschol then set in and i found my clic with the addicts form there and graduated to extasy and coke. My grades reflected so and so did my career i got fired from a total of about 15 jobs in 4 months when i graduated from highschool. My mom was on my case about getting clean so one day when i was high as h*ll? i went and decided to join the military.

Mainly thinking that i just needed structure in my life and i would be able to stop. Did boot camp and the first thing i did when i got home was smoke some weed and bs with old friends. and it became a patern everytime i would come home i would use kinda like a gift to myself for a long period of sobriety. Soon enough after a year in the corp using only when i was home wasn't enough started to work long hours and the stress just built up so i turned to my good friends coke to keep my up on trainig exercises and weed to clear my head and help me sleep. Soon enough i found the group of people addicts can always find the ones that love to use. I was going to work every day loaded just the get by and seem happy but on the inside i was lonely depressed and hurting.

Thats when Afghanistan happened. Just like i had always expected i got sent to the war. So i got a nice clean period of about 7 months while i was there, but i also saw 9 friends get killed and was blown up 3 times. So when i got back not only did i go straight back to using i was left with this little diease called ptsd and could only sleep for about 3 hours before waking up with nightmares and whatnot so i continued my abuse to sleeping pills and anything to make me forget. after about 5 months of agony i crawled my broke self to the couseling center and checked myself into a rehabilitation program where i currently am at and pround to be 2 months sober and glad to be alive today

I like people who i can relate to and just relaxing and taking things slow.

I hate it when people get up at meeting and think its story telling time if you are going to share say something meaningful that you think others can benefit from hearing.
