I always thought I would literally die with a cigarette in my hand, many family members, friends and co-workers thought the same thing. Till it happened. The one day I seen this picture in the Doctors office of a woman so addicted to the cigarettes that she was blowing smoke out of her trachea tube hole. It horrified me. I cant explain what that visual aid did for me that was going to change my life forever. So. then there was the 911 devistation. I prepared myself for the quit date, and I called the stop number for free patches, and the counselors do in fact follow through on thier support calls. They want to help you through it, and they did. So on the eve of 911 I quit, I hammered that last cigarette I wanted to smoke to a wooden cross I made out of sticks I found in my back yard and put it together with some yarn scraps I had around the house, and said, here lord, you take this from me, and he did. I cant tell you how nice it is now to take a full breath without coughing up the flem and it hurting to cough. My hair, fingertips clothes dont smell like smoke anymore and I dont have to spend money I dont have to buy them to feed my addiction. So I saved the money I would have spent in a jar, and bought myself a reward gift with it. Something I always wanted and I deserved for the hard work. And it is hard work. prepare yourself mentally, emotionally, and physically, talk with your family and friends and let them know what you plan on doing and you may be irritable for a while, replan your daily routines that would have been used up by smoking and replace that old stinking faithful friend you kept around with a new friend that will keep you healthier. Believe me, yes, I gained weight 10 to 20 pounds, but I excercised it off, and the food tastes great, and its a great feeling to know I now have control over another addiction I do not let it control me. So those who are thinking on quitting, good for you, stay strong, it took me many attempts until I was just done. Best wishes to you we are all in this addictions bubble together. break free from the chains that bind you my friend, spread your wings, and fly.
