Following the first postings of some personal video blogs (thanks Mish and KeithB), here are some instructions.Â
1. Create your own video and upload it to one of these three sites: Google Videos, YouTube or mySpace. You will need to follow the instructions on the respective site about how to upload it.Â
2. You can either (a) embed it into a section of your Profile Settings area on your Personal Page (e.g., area with Likes or Movies) or (b) you can upload it to the common video space. I will explain (b) because that is the simpler approach. To upload your Personal Video Blog, click on the "MY ACCOUNT" top menu item on the far right after you have logged in. Then click the "SUBMIT ITEMS" tab on the row of tabs beneath the top menu (about in the middle of the tabs). On the bottom of the page, you will see a link for [Upload Videos]. Click on that. Then you will see a link for [Add Video Stream]. Click on that. Now you will see a form where you can fill in all of the information about your personal video blog. One of the categories is "Personal Video". You can choose that.Â
3. If you followed the directions for (b) above, then the videos will show up on a VIDEOS area on your "MY PAGE". It will also show up under the videos from the top VIDEO menu item. This is a major difference between approaches (a) and (b) above, as approach (a) will only have your video on your personal "MY PAGE".Â
4. One caution is in order. Many recovery programs rightly emphasize anonymity to safeguard our safety in other social situations outside of recovery. So if you are thinking about personal video blogging, please make sure this is a good fit for you. If you feel comfortable with it, though, you now have a great tool for sharing and encouragement.  Â
