This is an overview of how to post pictures into the Comments area. The Comments area is the part of each person's profile page where you can post your personal comments and greetings. They are usually on the right side of any persons PROFILE page. If you want to leave a person a comment on their PROFILE page, then you can enter some text in the editor box that sits below the Leave me a comment title. You can also leave an image in that comment area and that is what this post is all about.

There are a couple of ways to insert an image into the comment area. First of all, you cannot insert an image directly from your personal computer. In other words, you cannot upload an image from your computer into the comment area. To display an image in the comment area, it has to be somewhere on the internet already. There are innumerable sites these days that cater to just this sort of approach. One of the more popular sites and the one that I will use for this post is at photobucket.com. I use that for an example because it is clear about how to use pictures in various ways also. You can also find numerous other sites for pictures by doing a search on something like "myspace pictures". A good source for images that would be good for this site is at anonymousspace.com.

So let's say that you have found a picture on photobucket that you want to embed into a comment for someones PROFILE page. When you select a picture in Photobucket, you have 4 different options below the picture:

  • Share URL - Email & IM
  • Direct Link - Layout Pages
  • HTML Code - Websites & Blogs
  • IMG Code - Forums & Bulletin Boards

Each of these options has different code beneath it to use. The most straightforward way to use these options for our purposes of embedding a picture are the Direct Link and HTML Code options.

The Direct Link option is where you embed a code for the actual picture into your comment. It shows the picture, but does not create a hyperlink to the Photobucket site. To do this, you should click the button with the picture of the tree in the menu bar above the editor for the comment. You should then get a dialog box that comes up. One of the text boxes on the dialog box is "Image URL". This is where you paste the text that you get from the Direct Link area of the Photobucket site. You can also set the other items in the dialog box like Image description and so forth, but those are not necessary. Then click the Insert button on the dialog box, and your image should be inserted.

The other option corresponds to the HTML Code option in Photobucket. This will insert HTML code into your comment, which usually means that when someone clicks on the picture, then there will be a hyperlink back to the Photobucket site. To use this approach, you should click the button on the menu bar above the editor that has HTML on it. When you do this, you will see the raw HTML code for everything that you have put into your editor box. It will be titled "HTML Source Editor". You can edit the HTML directly if you are familiar with HTML. If you are not, then the easiest thing is to copy the text from below the HTML Code on the Photobucket site and then just paste that into the beginning of your HTML Source Editor dialog box that you brought up. Then click the Update button and your image should show up in the editor.

Those are the two easy ways to embed pictures into your comments, or your blogs for that matter. It may sound difficult because it takes a lot of words to describe just a few simple actions. Hopefully if you work through it one time, though, then it will be simple to do from then on.
