I went through EMDR about 8 yrs ago....it was painful and draining...I had to do it on days that I wasnt working...but after a few months it did seem to work. My thaerapist likened it to me being on a speedtrain....watching the events from the safety of my seat on the train..protected by the glass. She emphasized that memories cannot hurt you...they can only heal you if handled and dealt with properly. I still drank through it though....my PTSD is what caused me to drink in the first place....so it wasnt as effective as it could have been...but I remember it to this day. Dont drink/use thhrough the treatment and hang in there...it has been proven to work!!!

I'n not sure what your going through, but I battled sensory memories for most of my life before I was able to bring actual trauma to cognition. I knew what I experienced without realizing the connection between my extreme emotions, the abuse, and my addiction and abuse of alcohol. Unfortunately, therapy is not pleasant, but if properly conducted it is safe and benificial. It just takes time and constant maintenance. We both know there is more to it however a better life is is the reward. I sure hope I was of some comfort. &nb sp; &nb sp; Joseph

Too much to life to allow alcohol to dictate the terms!

Calm in quietude is not real calm. When you can be calm in the midst of activity, this is the true state of nature. Happiness in comfort is not real happiness. When you can be happy in the midst of hardship, then you see the true potential of the mind.

all i know about healing of memories is that one by one, little by little, it unfolds as a feeling wholeness in time. each one is like going through a gigantic pile of papers deciding what to keep and what to toss. i live with someone now who is in a bad state as what you are experiencing. it's hard to see the process. i only know there is light at the end of the tunnel. some memories can truly toss your hope out the window. just remember to keep going. eventually it all comes clear. to me i wrote dozens of journals just to get the darkness thoughts out of my head. i took many long walks, naps and tried to be around people who had serenity and peace in their lives. prayer and meditation on phrases that mean something to you helps too. i love the serenity prayer - great to recite.
