I've been smoking pot one to several times daily for the last 4 years.  I've been thinking about stopping for a long time and I was in the precontemplative stage for over two years trying to decide whether I wanted to live without weed.  But I do, and I'm embarking on my last solo attempt to kick it before I give in and consult professional help.  I really think i can do this on my own, and today is day 1.  So here goes.

Congrats - acting on the desire to stop is the way to go. There are a lot of people here that know what it is like - when it ceases to be a casual "thing" and a monkey on your back that drives you crazy.  Take advantage of them,  helping others cope is a way for many of us to try and pay back for the gift we have been so graciously given.

For me with weed, It was just a matter of willing myself through those first few days/weeks. After that it was alot easier. Of course that's just me.
