HAPPY TO BE ALIVE
Posted On 03/17/2010 03:07:18 by Debrinconcita

I can truly say without God's help today and everyday, I would still be waiting for the dopeman, and drunk on a daily basis? That is what my life consisted of for past 15 yrs or so. I seen many friends of mine die because of alcoholism, related issues. Mostly one's younger than me! That scared me alot, but not enough to stop! I didn't decide to stop until I didn't want to see my son's lose their mother and their home. I cared more for them, than I did for myself really!! Thanks to God I went to a State of Oregon DHS office one day and just brokedown and asked for help from Addiction. I still don't believe I did that??? Because mostly as a Native American people we were taught not to ask for help, or break down or show weakness. It not showing weakness if you want to save your own life. That is showing strength I finally told myself. OR RATHER GOD TOLD ME IN MY HEAD THAT I WAS OKAY! So I took a chance and asked for help. Now I have been sober from alcohol for more than 4 yrs now! I drank almost everyday since the age of 15yrs old. I am now 47 yrs old today! I am clean off all illicit drugs for the past 3yrs. (1relapse) But, I am happy to be clean & sober and I will make sure that there is many many more where that came from! I live a happy and fullfilled life with meetings and church and therapy. I take care of my health issues and I care what happens today! That's what sobriety can do for you and I saved my life for a better lifestyle.
