Codependent to Borderline Personality Disorder!
Posted On 01/26/2010 11:54:00 by Cherylee

In my last few therapy sessions, my psychologist has dropped the comment, "that is part of the borderline personality." After the second time he said it, I did some research. All I could find was borderline personality disorder. I'm not really sure how that happened. I've continued with research, and read some books cover-to-cover on the subject. I can see some parallel thinking, but I really do not want to accept this. Worse, I don't know what to do with it. I understand that it is just a diagnosis and that it does not define me, but WOW, what a lable to have.

It doesn't matter what the psychologist thinks, it matters what you think! I know I have a lot of codependency issues, and I think pretty much every addict and alcoholic out there can be listed as "dual diagnoses". If you don't like it, don't use the term I tell my therapist all the time that he can stuff it Welcome to this site either way, from one codependent to another

Peace

Jessie

As someone in recovery from alcohol addiction, I am sure I have been borderline lots of things in my time!

As others have said, striving to bring ones life back into balance and harmony

will help ! I happen to use many tools- occasionally therapy with a counselor.

More today with a 12 step program - AA. although I can also use Adult child of an alcoholic ( - prn-)

If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask!    Blessings, Nia

Any one or a combination of the the symptoms of BPD can be fit into codependency or a few other psychobabble buzzwords  - I believe the difference is in degree and breadth of the attributed symtom. The question would be how well/long does your psychologist know you. And if you trust their judgement.

Thank you for that. I have actually been seeing this psychologist since 2007 and he typically is right (though I usually refuse to admit it right away). I will accept his diagnosis and work toward overcoming this. I'm confident and hopeful and grateful for the encouraging words I have gotten here. Thank you all, a thousand times over.

That's just it, it's a label.

You make the choices, You let God lead, let this go how it’s supposed to go, on God’s terms, not on “labels”.  Don't dwell on the "label", dwell on making things new.

I'm a teacher, so I HATE LABELING.

You can conquer anything you set your mind to with God's leading.
