MONEY TIGHT-WANT TO GIVE?
“There is hardly a more gracious gift that we can offer somebody than to accept them fully, to love them almost despite themselves.”
— Elizabeth Gilbert
“The best anyone can offer to give people is an effective tool they can use to solve their problem themselves.”
— Tara Springett
‘Tis the season, and if money is tight, giving (or not giving) can put added stress on what can be an emotionally charged time of the year.
The above quotes come from “Oprah World” and are extremely timely.
What better gift can we give anyone than the gift of acceptance? This is particularly true of people we have carried negative feelings about for a period of time. In just accepting them for who and what they are, we also give ourselves a little piece of serenity.
The Springett quote is an interesting one. It exemplifies what coaching is all about, being a tool that allows people to solve their own problems. Maybe I’ll be a Christmas gift!!!
When looking at giving, do you remember yourself?
It is lovely to give “acceptance” to others. Ever thought about giving it to you? There are so many wandering around with unhealthy self-esteem, and they often see giving to others as a way of getting love and approval. I’ve been there. One of the best gifts I ever gave those I love was going on a life recovery journey myself. In transforming, I am able to love myself and give love in abundance to those around me. Don’t forget “YOU” in the giving of acceptance.
I’m sure those who read this blog will come up with a multitude of ways we can give without spending what we haven’t got. We can feel good about giving without increasing our stress load. Follow reader responses here or on www.hopeserenity.ca!
For me, I will continue to give the gift of “service” to others when I can!
Since recovery, I have learned to really love this season of giving and just enjoy each day over this season as best I can. Amazing what a difference my enjoyment of the holiday season is today, and it is certainly not a focus on giving the biggest or best!
Relook the quotes, within them you may find an idea!
