To the special people that reply to my blogs. I appreciate you.  Although I have made a year clean,, I have not been sold on the whole meeting and step working thing. I have been participating in outpatient treatment for a year. I do not doubt AA/NA, but the closer that I get to completing my outpatient the more I'm like ok now is the time to get into the meetings, sponsor, and stepwork because I think oh my gosh if I don't have treatment to go to what do I have. I know one thing for sure I cannot do this by myself. so question the very few meetings that I have gone to either there is alot of hooking up, or just not being able to connect. can you all offer me any tips/suggestions to get in the groove so to say. peace love and happiness

google the AA 'grapevine' a monthly publication which is our meeting in print-

I often used that at home when I was inbetween meetings....It might -along with-

the AA (Big book) of Alcoholics Anonymous- (also online) provide you with stories

you can identify with !  when you start to have " Oh Yeah!" I did that- have felt that-

moments, you can be sure that there are more of those at meetings!

when you do go to your first meeting they will most often offer you a free copy of

the big book... Nia

Keep going back. Forget about the people that are there to hook up, and go anyway to save your own ass Check out different meetings. I've heard to go to a meeting a few times before you say yay or nay, and if after that you still don't like it, check out a different one, or two, or three.... THIS IS YOUR LIFE!!!!! Don't let a few people who are not working a recovery program keep you from working your own recovery program! YOU CAN DO IT SISTER!!!

I'm with Dennis!

Having just moved to a new area, I had to find a group I was comfortable at. I went to diffrent meetings, some several times, and the choice became clear after a while!

I relax, stick my hand out, and let people get to know me at a pace they're comfortable with.

If I stay out of the way, things work out!

luv

A couple of thoughts. Yes, it is darn hard to walk into a roomful of strangers to talk about things you'd probably rather not talk about. That being said, it's well worth giving it a chance. If you have several different fellowships in your area, do a random sampling of them all.  Three or four meetings in each - especially if you can find women's stag meetings. They give you a chance to see how the members conduct themselves in a more closed environment. A better shot a choosing a serious sponsor.

I wouldn't look for easy - look for serious and happy. People dedicated to their fellowship and willing to go to any lengths to enjoy life - clean and sober. If you don't like the look or tone of a group, try a differnet day. All aren't created equal. When you find the winners - stick with them. It'll make you ...

Hugs,

Dennis
