when life throws a curve ball how you gonna act
Posted On 11/17/2009 00:36:48 by adelacruz76

It pains me to see an addict that knows their an addict has done or says she's done the step work, did inpatient as well as outpatient puts on that "everything is fine" front and then bam life throughs her a curve ball husband is diagnosed with stage three cancer and she starts drinking again, she got so bad he and his daughter are staying in a motel and he'll soon go to hospice. It hurts, but I know that I am in no position to help at this point all I can do is pray for her. What else is left. I ask that all those that read this to pray for her as well. I don't know why my heart aches at this point.can any one shed some light for me help me to understand.

More often than not, all anyone can do is pray when someone goes back out. Tis a fact of life - may God's will bring her back.

Declaring oneself an addict or alcoholic and saying you "did" the steps always makes me wonder. We can't just do these steps - we must live them, 24/7. Or there is a good chance we will drink or use again. It's in our nature and the only way to overcome the way we think is through doing these same 12 steps over and over again. That temporary reprieve that He grants us - is entirely dependent on our spiritual condition. Which is 100% dependent on how honestly we are living our program...

I'm sorry for this situation, but it's the many things that we can't answer.  There is a plan, but we don't know what it is.

All we can do is pray. With God, all things are possible.

Looked in a mirror to find an answer?

Scary that we can't fix anyone isn't it?

"Grief is a natural part of life; but for an addict it provides an extra set of challenges to get through. Sometimes people have had extended periods of being clean; only to fall off the wagon due to a traumatic event." Once an addict always an addict. May God help her to realize she can do this sober with His help and the help of others He has placed in her path. My prayers are with her, her husband, daughter and you!
