July 9: Dealing With Shame
Today I will remember that Rome was not built in a day, and I will not
be all that I wish to be overnight. When I act in ways that I later feel
shame about, I will remind myself that to feel shame and release it is
healthy - to get lost in it will get me into trouble. When I hold onto
shame, I run the risk that I will eventually resent the feeling and look
for other people to pin it on or to blame. Or in order to release the
pain of feeling ashamed myself, I may act it out by shaming someone
else. Today when I feel shame, I will remember that no one is perfect
and that I need not be either. I make prompt amends to anyone I may
hurt, including myself, and move on in my day.
I am capable of moving past shame.
The deeper the sorrow, the less tongue it hath.
