Nature vs. Nurture
Posted On 05/26/2009 09:20:03 by TrippinExpress

I was adopted shortly after birth.  I met my birth mom and my siblings 16 years ago.  Things got weird, I got scared, and backed off.  I have not seen them in 14 years but continued to talk to them some.  Then came along my "period of unpleasantness"  and I lost touch with everyone.  I moved around alot, may or may not have had a phone, no one knew where to find me most of the time- not even the parents that raised me.  It has been 6 years since I have spoken with my biological mom until a couple of weeks ago.  She invited me up over the weekend and I spent part of Memorial Day with my her and her family.  It was odd seeing how I have in common with these people that are strangers to me.  I am so much more like them than the people I have spent my entire life with.  It was awesome.

Oh, addiction is not has genetically linked as they once predicted.  I've found addiction is a mind set.  You can get addicted to painting pottery as much as alcohol or drugs or whatever.  A person gets something out of they addiction they chose.  Replace the bad addiction to one more positive and you'll be surprised how quickly things will turn around. Its letting go of whats been your comfort zone, getting uncomfortable trying new positive replacements, then the new becomes the comfort zone and the bad addiction feels weird.  It all starts with the thoughts and the mind set.  AsAManThinketh.com - great free ebook to get started on retraining the mind.  Life saver

bytheway, i'm adopted too at a young age. i met both my birthparents in the last 10 years. i was screwed either way cuz addiction runs amuck in both adoptive and bio families oops! oh well. I'm in recovery now, so it's all good peace

Sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don't.  But I figure as long as I have enough sense to know I'm crazy, I'm really not to bad off.  Its the ones with issues that don't know it you gotta look out for!  You can always fix what you recognize.  That's the difference between crazy and insane.  But I get nutism from both sides of my biological family.  I'm really gonna have fun in my life.  I told my daughter to quit trying to act crazy - it'll come on its own.  We come from a long line of nuts!  There's a pill for everything, but if you want to be whole without synthetic psychotrophic medications, there is always therapy and God.  Or come live a week with me in my life, that ususally makes people more grateful for their own!  lol   just kidding, its all good.  Cry because the rose bush has thorns or rejoice because the thorn bush has roses.  Its the same thing but the thought behind it changes the world.

As long as there is HOPE there are limitless possibilities.  Sometimes at the end of the road is the best place to be.  That means where you go from there is ALL IN YOUR HANDS.  With no more road in front of you you can make it and pave it with whatever you choose.  Sounds overwhelming but when its broken down its pretty cool.  Write down that big goal of where you want to be, then break it down into segments of what its gonna take to get  there, then break those down into individual steps that will create those segments, and keep breaking it down into a long but manageable list.  Then start at number 1 and GO.  It'll be all together and accomplished before you know it. It may take years to fix things, but h*ll? it took years to screw it up too!  lol
