Is it really worth it??
Posted On 05/12/2009 11:09:23 by alone92

The problem isn't cutting.... Its the cause of the cutting that is the problem.

Im fine... really. (they dont believe it either)

How will you know that I am hurting if you cannot see my pain? To wear it on my body tells what words cannot explain.

THEY DO NOT KNOW ME BUT THEY HAVE LABLED ME.

The cry of the unheard... Can you hear it?

MEANING:

Cutting - a permanent "solution" (my solution) to a temporary problem.

Question: Is it really worth it?

Answer: Im still trying to figure it out.

As in alcoholism, the underlying problem is always something else - or many somethings. Drinking was a very temporary solution to problems I couldn't find a way to get rid of. So I drank until I added yet another problem to my list - not being able to stop. Today I've don't have the problems (other than me) that make me want to drink, along with the desire to do so. It was worth it. One day sober is worth it. No regrets. You are worth it...

The problem with addictive behaviors - whether it be cutting, alcohol, porn, sex, drugs, overspending, overeating, anorexia, etc. is that they only give a short term "relief". Yes, it is difficult to, first of all, stop the behaviors that give that very short term "relief" and then to further drill down to the real emotional issues and difficulties that brought on the desire for these addictive behaviors. But there is a pot of gold at the end of the recovery rainbow, in the form of satisfaction, joy, peace, love and all of the intangibles that our heart longs for. And, interestingly enough, the other material things that we need (but not usually all of our "wants") come along during the process as well. It's not always easy, but it IS worth it.

Recovery is definetly worth it. Whether it be cutting or other ways of abusing self, all of us who chose recovery have to work extremely hard on our real problem, how we feel about self.

I hope you chose recovery over self-injury. From my experience, it is worth it and you can change if you really want to!
