I don't think it matters what you call your higher power as long as you know there is one. I look at it like this, if there is no higher power then all that is left is me. When left to my own device, nothing good comes of it. I see the works of my higher power through other people (my support group, friends, etc), and circumstance. I’m not saying every thing my support group says is gospel, but I know, it’s my higher power when something that is said hits me profoundly.

I’m curious what you all think?

WE HAVE MANY THINGS THAT HAVE POWER GREATER THAN OURSELVES, BUT TO CLAIM IT AS SOMETHING THAT STRENGTHENS US, IN RECOVERY AND GUIDES US, IS NOT WHAT THE BIG BOOK TEACHES US.

WHO DO YOU PRAY TO WHEN YOU SAY THE THIRD STEP PRAYER? IS IT THE DOOR KNOB, THE GROUP OF DRUNKS, YOUR CAR, THE GOVERNMENT, SPOUSE, SPONSOR MAYBE?

HOW CAN YOU SHARE WITH YOUR SPONSEE'S, UNLESS YOU KNOW WHO YOUR GOD IS, AND THEY CAN SEE HIS POWER AT WORK?

JUST A FEW THOUGHTS ABOUT GOD.
BIG BOOK CALLS HIM OUR CREATOR AND MAKER.

SO, I'LL LEAVE IT AT THAT, AND ASK MY GOD TO STRENGTHEN YOUR RECOVERY.

Yep -

My best thinking got me drunk and kept me there. Left to my own devices, I can guarantee that nothing good comes out.

I find that practicing the 11th step has attuned me more to seeing God's (my HP) work in my life and that of others. It can come through a myriad of means, from newfound opportunities to serve, conversation, or doing what I really do best. Keeping my lips zipped and listening.

YF,

Dennis
