Concern for Home Group
Posted On 01/21/2009 22:25:56 by txcupcake33

We ask for help and help is given.

Often we do not recognize that other people's alcoholism/drug abuse, sexual betrayals, chronic illnesses, and alienation behavior are really cries for help.

But, unquestionably, God recognizes every plea, no matter what form it takes, and He finds some way to give us as much help as we are willing to receive at that time.

The past few weeks I have really been thinking alot about my home group. We are a small but fairly new group yet we are BIG in alot of ways. The group is having trouble getting more meeting  days each week and options seem limited. Any suggestions?? How can we get our group recognized without breaking the traditions? I know were there's a will there's a way. We are in the heart of prison country...as I have learned to call it. So there is much need for 12 step groups throughout the area. Any ideas you can suggest would be appreciated greatly. Please pray for my home group.

A Big Thank You everyone for your friendship & support!

Hello Keith. I follow you...we love how our group is so close & intimate for lack of a better word. We are getting with another group to help spread the word about both groups. Service work is an amazing thing! Thanks

Attraction, not promotion! That being said, our AA central group publishes a meeting book and has meeting times and places on line. Most areas do. Publications will often run a free ad for groups like yours like having a problem with? Call XXX XXXX and meet others like you. You get the idea.

There is a lot to be said for keeping groups small also. Small isn't neccissarily bad.

A group I helped start up has got quite large. The meeting helps many, but the intimacy and the personal time on individual issues had diminished. Hope these thoughts help! Glad to see you care.

luv

That's a great idea!! I have put fliers up at the probation departments in the surrounding area. After all I ended up learning about local groups from there myself. Thought that was a start. Attendance is a great thing but thats not what its about. Do you know what limits a group has with the traditions?

Thanks

well my home group makes flyers & a couple at a time go to one of vegas's oldest & most notorious drug infested areas here in town & spreads to word to people fighting a daily addiction. we dont do it for the attendance persay, just alotta familiar faces. it helps when they can see someone they know actually recovering. good luck !!!

Hmmm...maybe you could have some kind of function which could be announced as news at other meetings? Would that be ok with tradition?

That's a tough one--good luck!
