Something Dennis just said- writing in his blog- brought me around a

corner,which is great! Thanks-

...Wind and ADJUSTING sails-

Back when-( pre alcohol abuse-) I spent amazing amounts of time outdoors.

There was wonder, joy, respect, awe-

As an energetic being, often sent out/away "Go amuse yourself" the world,

from city parks, to farms, mountains, water, beaches, gardens- became play

grounds... Sometimes solitary, sometimes not.

Interacting with all the wonders you encounter out there-you find out a lot of

things about natural forces. How they operate and the effects on people,

animals. You learn to watch and listen. You learn about choices. Rock, water,

earth, wind-you find out what you can control and what you cannot...

So much later, when I came into the rooms it was not hard to find a "Power

greater than self"  Nature is certainly that... And can be a wonderous

springboard for faith !

Dennis added a dimesion: of 'Harnessing' wind- maybe sails turned-

will bring us to new places-at a speed more in keeping with our

Higher power ?

Nia, this is an interesting idea to meditate upon! Reminds me of how we would explore the outdoors when we were young to still play. The older we seem to get, does that childish awe and wonderment seem to diminish the more we become centered (and sheltered) in front of the tv/computer and video games.... My childish imagination of God became limited and eventually unimportant the older I got.

In a weird, but meaningful way, being in recovery is like rediscovering that youthful appreciation and curiousity I lost with time and circumstance.

Thank you so much for sharing this!

Wow, it is just really nice to read this. I have been a city dweller for a long time now. But I grew up in a rural area and also when I was a teen, pre-alcohol-abuse I spent a lot of time in nature, and would regularly take time out to reflect and just appreciate being present in the moment and feel part of something bigger. You are right, it is beautiful to observe and be aware of the natural world, we feel less "important" in our own problems, but in a good way :)  I miss that feeling of connection with nature and I must try to revisit it somehow at some point in the future.. Thank you for sharing this, it has reminded me of a part of my life that sadly I had forgotten or (for now)seem to have left behind.

It is true grace that each of us who want, find a HP just about anywhere, and when we do, it is an AHAAAA!!

Nia -
Tis a wonderful thought. When those times of (supposed) adversity are thrust upon us, instead of fighting it we figure a way to harness it and use it to propel us.
I used to think all the things that happened to me were God's way of punishing me for my sins. Simply by turning around that perception and finding a purpose in each event or situation, I've managed to find reason in most everything that has happened in my life - including my drunken insanity. Acceptance that we cannot change the wind and determination that we can use it. Power beyond belief, just waiting for me to interact with it, instead of fighting it...
Thank you,
Dennis
