"When The Levee Breaks"
Posted On 07/25/2008 13:25:30 by prodigalreturned

July 24ths' "Twenty Four Hours A Day" thought for the day, meditation and prayer resonated with me, and perhaps even more with people from the recent past and current present in the flood-ravaged areas praying for the levees (dikes) and dams to hold amidst torrential rains. How much like our program and our lives.

A.A. (N.A., S.L.A., G.A., etc.) is like a dike, holding back the ocean of liquor. If we take one glass of liquor, it is like making a small hole in the dike and once such a hole has been made, the whole ocean of alcohol may rush in upon us. By practicing the A.A. principles we keep the dike strong and in repair. We spot any weakness or crack in the dike and make the necessary repairs before any damage is done. Outside the dike is the whole ocean of alcohol, waiting to engulf us again in despair. Am I keeping the dike strong?

Keep as close as you can to the Higher Power. Try to think, act, live as though you were always in God's presence. Keeping close to a Power greater than yourself is the solution to most of the earth's problems. Try to practice the presence of God in the things you think and do. That is the secret of personal power. It is the thing that influences the lives of others for good.  Abide in the Lord and rejoice in His love. Keep close to the Divine Spirit in the universe. Keep God close behind your thoughts.

I pray that I may keep close to the Mind of God. I pray that I may live with Him in my heart and mind.

If it keeps on rainin', levee's goin' to break, [X2]
When The Levee Breaks I'll have no place to stay.

Mean old levee taught me to weep and moan, [X2]
Got what it takes to make a mountain man leave his home,
Oh, well, oh, well, oh, well.

Don't it make you feel bad
When you're tryin' to find your way home,
You don't know which way to go?
If you're goin' down South
They go no work to do,
If you don't know about Chicago.

Cryin' won't help you, prayin' won't do you no good,
Now, cryin' won't help you, prayin' won't do you no good,
When the levee breaks, mama, you got to move.

All last night sat on the levee and moaned, [X2]
Thinkin' about me baby and my happy home.
Going, going to Chicago... Going to Chicago... Sorry but I can't take you...
Going down... going down now... going down....

"Always in Gods presence..."   Hmmm, that brings it around from the other side-

sometimes I feel I'm walking toward him, or forward for him-add levees to that

and-I understand a little more about the sheerness of the high rock walls I was

walking up through this morning- ( sometimes I wake up with images front and

center) I will spend more time with this- Thanks!   Nia

Ken -
A wonderful reason to keep coming back. Cutting back on my spiritual program is like taking a sledge to the dike. It may not collapse right then and there, but i'll bet you (and others) would see the leaks seeping through the cracks in a matter of weeks - if not days. Without constant upseeking and reprayer, I would drown in a torrent of alcohol...

Love the analogy,
Dennis
