Your Insides Vs. Their Outsides. Compare??
Comparing my insides to other people's outsides causes me problems.
--Joan Rohde
For most my life I felt inferior. Others seemed smarter, wittier, and more attractive. I felt inadequate every time I compared myself to others. Getting free from addictions hasn't freed us from this behaviour, at least not completely. Fortunately, I now have tools that I can use in changing behaviour that hinders my growth.
Talking with a mentor, sharing with a friend, or asking my higher power for help frees me from the hold of negative behaviours. Comparing me to others doesn't have to shame me any longer. All that's necessary is to stop the thought, think instead of the presence of my higher power within, and quietly bless myself and the person who unknowingly triggered our reaction. My progress in changing this shortcoming will be as swift as my decision to take this simple action. It gets better with practice!
I am in control of my thoughts. My higher power will help me every time I start to compare myself to someone else today. I am responsible for my thoughts and actions.
