Relapse
Posted On 02/05/2008 02:36:02 by AmenOmen

As addicts we know that relapse starts long before we actually pick up and use, we also know that relapse is part of addiction and not part of recovery, so when an addict is living in the illusion of recovery relapse is inevitable.
As addicts we know life is why we used, so without healthy coping mechanisms for life where do we turn, back to the only reality we have ever known but have never understood, dope! If you are wondering why this post, its here to make addicts think and hopefully stop something from happening that has the potential to be very costly. Do you see what I see?

Much peace,

AO

Getting too comfortable in recovery, going to less meetings, reducing my involvement in sites like this, skipping meditation and prayer - because I don't feel I need it. Yep - you can put that on my headstone: "Here lies a Fool".

As long as I do the things that got me here and add to them as needed, I'll only sweat it a little bit. When I stop being concerned about my recovery, I'm dead meat.

Thanx,

Dennis

It's not dope for me but I sure get the relapse message.  However, I think it is important to note that when relapse does occur it can be used as a tool...what can I do differently next time to take care of myself so relapse doesn't happen?  Like you said it starts long before, so I can learn about my triggers and watch for them to avoid future relapse.  That way I can move past the shame of relapse and not stay stuck there!

Dope, food, alcohol, love, etc.  Yep - I can relate!  Thanks for the post.

I can't relate to dope, but I can relate to relapse... Going back to what we're familiar with. Even if it didn't and never worked for us before.

Great post!
