Yesterday I had the honor and privilege to celabrate my sponsors 23 years of sobriety. He chaired and spoke at our local 10:30 A.M meeting. I was originally going to just drop his card off and scoot out. But for some reason I decided to stay.
I was always aware my sponsor had great sobriety and worked the steps in his life(that is why I asked him :) ) But I had no idea the of the amount of respect this man has with people in A.A..As i sat listening to him share I gazed around the room. I took a quick count and there had to be at leat 300 years of sobriety in that room yesterday. There where a few people that actually took the day off work to be there. I was surprised and very impressed. It gave me a new insite to my sposnsor. I can only wish to have the respect he has.
I am blessed to live inan area where 20+ years of sobriety is the norm and seeing people with 30,40 and even 50 years of sobriety is not uncommon. I don't put these people on pedestals anymore. Today they represent hope to me. They give me clear directions for the road I MUST travel.
Someone once told me "The days turn into weeks, the weeks into months, the months into years and the years into one day; TODAY!!!
May God show you the same Love Compassion Grace and Mercy hehas swown me
