Nine Months Sober

Today, I will have nine months sober.  I though that I would never get to this point in my life.  Last year I was drowning in my disease and was pathway for death.  Eventually, the alcohol would consume me to death.

....papers clutter the coffee table, index cards glow from highlighted text ...its that time...final exams.

Dudes it still seems so completely sureal. Here I sit studying,  reflecting...about the day  I came to realize I was a complete powerless wreck, a shell of a woman..mother...lover ...friend.

We try and alternate holidays with our families- and so this time it was our turn to go visit my family on Cape Cod....I always go with as much hope and light heartedness as possibly can be summoned- I pray and pray for 'connectedness' and belonging- Iam repeatedly shown forgiveness and acceptance...

It is only my Brother and I remaining with 'close' blood ties... and there is so much I dream of for him- he is a good deal older, and a world away in lifestyle-

I was pleasantly surprised how smoothly this community managed voting...

Not that we are large or urban!

  I wonder about apathy- although there seemed to be little, yesterday,

comparatively speaking. ( 80% turn out in a lot of places-)

Voting, a right and a privilege- 'Civic duty' as my dad used to say.
