I have a daughter[02.03.2002] I didn't HAVE to change for me but I had to change for her.
I'm not all the way through just yet [who'd dare say they were?] but I've come far enough to be in a position now to be helping others.
I work in a homeless hostel and use arts as a means of teaching others its ok to express yourself. We have artists painting backdrops, others making props, roadies and stage managers, camera and audio operatives, singers, guitarists, violinists, poets...you name it we'll fit it in. The group fascilitates outlets for a range of performance levels from amateur to professional.
We believe we are in the 'business' of [re]building confidence in a sector of the population for whom feeling means pain...and expressing that has brought more of the same.
It doesn't have to be that way.
Feeling can mean liberation and joy too.
'Shit happens'...it happens to us all...the difference between coping and not coping is not the circumstances...it is the person.
We can learn ways of coping but first, we have to believe...in ourselves...and in others.
We believe self confidence is the key and arts [the expression of emotions]the best method.

'real', honest, caring people.
Helpers care.
Those in need care.
