My name is Linnea and I'm seventeen years old. A long road of emotional instability has plagued me and contributed to my addictions and compulsive behavior. I was diagnosed as ADD and with significant learning disabilities in elementary school and, although I excelled in certain subjects, my achievement never matched my potential and I quickly learned to think of myself in very fatalistic terms. I believed that I could never amount to anything and this low self-worth was compounded by severe depression and by self-injury (cutting, burning, hitting) that began at age nine. I was to be diagnosed with bipolar disorder at age fifteen. I began smoking pot multiple times a day at age thirteen and graduated to cocaine, speed, and pills, at fifteen. By sixteen, I was using heroin and in the throes of an eating disorder which eventually led my parents to pursue treatment for me. Now, I'm looking t define my life by something other than the substances in it. I know that if I don't find something else to guide my life I will be dead or homeless by the time I'm 25.

reading, writing poetry, nature, Christmas in the city, playgrounds at midnight, camel wides, thai food

ignorance, panic attacks, feeling helpless

You have taken the first step.

Now, how far do you want to walk.

You are young and your journey has just begun.

I will speak from experience. This journey called life goes one of two ways: The way YOU want it to, or the way others want it to.

It appears you have some choices to make about you and where you want to go.

I won't preach to you. I won't tell you what to do for you know what you have to do.

I will give you a little piece of advice. Take it one day at a time. Don't worry about tomorrow. Just focus on today. Focus like you have never focused before.

Look at life. All of it. Look at it as if today is your last on this little blue marble in out space. See the wonder and beauty in it for just a moment and make the decision. Make the decision that you want this forever. And take a moment to thank GOD for giving you life. And ask him to help you on your journey.

You are young and appear to have a good head on your shoulders.

God Bless and hang in there.
